Our Senior Pastor, Brett DeHart, joined the Douglasville First United Methodist Church team in 2016. Before DFUMC, he was at The United Methodist Children’s Home where he helped launch its new strategic plan, primarily focused around a major expansion of foster care. He has previously pastored four United Methodist congregations (Underwood, Roswell, Austell First, Boynton). In each setting, community engagement and missional outreach increased. While at Boynton UMC in Ringgold, the church was a part of starting a local Recovery ministry with other churches, provided weekend sacks of food for over 100 school children each week, and started an annual Christmas community event at a local farm that drew over 1,000 people. While serving at Austell First UMC, the church won its city’s Business of the Year award for its service during the historic flood in 2009. As an Associate Minister at Roswell UMC, Brett led the church to complete over 10,000 servant evangelism contacts. Internationally, Brett has a heart for Venezuela and Cuba.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Florida State University and a Master of Divinity degree from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology.

Brett and his high school sweetheart, Candy, will celebrate their 25th anniversary this summer. They have two children.
